Baker/Pastry Manager

We are looking for a baker/pastry manager to join the opening team of our ambitious NEW all-day cafe. We want someone who gets excited about exploring ethnic bakeries, experimenting with new flavor profiles and also understands how to respect the classics. We ask for open-minds, not egos, to join us in creating an interesting pastry program to complement our all-day cafe menu.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced pastry professional who is creative, quality-oriented and will be dedicated to helping us uphold our high standards in the kitchen to deliver consistent, excellent service to our guests.

The Pastry Manager will report to the Chef and work with the owners as a team to manage and grow the baked goods program at Cafe Ana, responsibilities will include some administrative work.

Skills required:

  • Strong baking skills and a working knowledge of general pastry techniques including the formulas and principles concerning starches, fats, sugars, liquids, eggs and flavorings.

  • Experience with laminated doughs and bread

  • Ability to troubleshoot recipes when they are made improperly

  • Ability to execute and teach recipes and techniques to maintain correct yields, proper flavor, color and consistency

  • Availability to work early mornings, some holidays, and weekends

  • Maintain health department, food quality, and brand standards

  • Basic computer skills and ability to operate computer software programs including spreadsheet applications

  • Excellent basic math skills

  • Ability to problem solve

Cafe Ana is a new all-day cafe and wine bar offering progressive California cuisine. The menu will focus on sandwiches, salads, house-made pastries, and other seasonally driven dishes for breakfast and lunch as well as an evening menu to complement a curated selection of beer and wine. Brunch and dinner service are planned for the future as well. Located on the corner of Anapamu and Anacapa streets in Downtown Santa Barbara, the restaurant will offer dine-in and take-out in a fine-casual service environment.The overall vision is one of quality with an emphasis on ingredients and simplicity.
